Better Healthcare and Housing for Labradorians; Better Healthcare and Housing for All Of Us
LABRADOR CITY, NL – Progressive Conservative Leader Tony Wakeham today announced a series of commitments to improve health care and housing in Labrador, including a province-wide commitment to help build seniors’ communities. Wakeham was joined by Joe Power, PC candidate for Labrador West.
“Joe Power and I are not only hearing that residents of Labrador West are concerned about healthcare - they are also concerned about housing,” said Wakeham. “That is why I am so pleased to announce my provincial housing plan right here in Labrador West.”
While speaking to a local seniors' organization, Wakeham announced a new PC government will invest $26 million to help build vibrant, active, seniors communities across the province.
“My government will work with communities - just like the one here in Lab west, to help create affordable and independent housing for seniors who prefer to move into a community environment,” said Wakeham “We want seniors to live healthy, active lives surrounded by their friends in their communities”
“After years of empty Liberal promises, a PC government will make sure that Labrador gets its fair share of funding for seniors housing and healthcare.”
Wakeham also took the opportunity to reiterate his party’s healthcare commitments that will most directly benefit Labradorians, including:
- Under a PC Government, no resident of the province will have to pay out of pocket for medical transportation if they must travel outside their region for essential health care;
- A PC government will fix the problems with the existing Labrador medical flight program;
- A commitment of a new MRI machine in Labrador; and
- The creation of a new Labrador Regional Health Council to ensure that Labradorians shape Labrador healthcare services.
“I’m excited to have Joe Power on my team. Joe understands the challenges that Labrador West faces,” concluded Wakeham. “On October 14th, we are asking the people of Labrador to vote for better healthcare, lower taxes, and safer communities for all of us,”
