David Brazil

A graduate of Memorial University, CONA and York University, Mr. Brazil has been an independent business owner, has worked in the non-profit sector and has been a senior manager with the Provincial Government for the past 26 years. He has worked for the departments of Human Resources, Labour and Employment, Health and Community Services, Tourism, Culture and Recreation, Education and Municipal Affairs.
 
Mr. Brazil has extensive experience and knowledge particularly in dealing with issues related to employment, education, healthy lifestyles, tourism, youth and infrastructure.
 
Mr. Brazil was re-elected to the House of Assembly on October 11, 2011. He was appointed Minister of Service NL, Minister Responsible for the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission, Minister Responsible for the Office of the Chief Information Officer, and Minister Responsible for the Government Purchasing Agency on July 17, 2014. On September 30, 2014, he was appointed Mr. Brazil to serve as the Minister of Transportation and Works.
 
In the general election on November 30, 2015, Mr. Brazil was re-elected to represent the people of Conception Bay East – Bell Island in the House of Assembly.
 
On December 18, 2015, he was sworn in as a Member of the House of Assembly and also appointed to serve as Chair of the Public Accounts Committee. He has served as the Deputy Opposition House Leader and the Official Opposition Critic for Health and Community Services, and Education and Early Childhood Development. On May 14, 2018, Mr. Brazil became the Leader of the Official Opposition in the House of Assembly.
 
Mr. Brazil was re-elected as MHA for Conception Bay East - Bell Island on May 16th, 2019 and again on March 25, 2021.
 
He was appointed Leader of the Opposition for the second time on March 31, 2021.
