About Frank Butt

Frank Butt was born in Carbonear, one of twelve children of Theresa Butt (nee Gear of Northern Bay) and the late James P. Butt.

Frank received a diploma in Clerk Accounting from the College of the North Atlantic in 1988 and entered the business life in 1989. In 2000, Frank started the apprenticeship for Steamfitter/Pipefitter and received his Red Seal in 2005. During this time, he travelled back and forth to Alberta working on different industrial projects and understands the feeling of being a rotational worker.

Along with his time in Alberta, he worked in Newfoundland and Labrador, on a project such as; the demo plant for the Vale Long Harbour project, the building of the Vale Long Harbour site, the Sea Rose FPSO, many maintenance and upgrades to the Come By Chance oil refinery, the Canopy Group operations in the White Hills, St. John’s and other projects within our province.

In September 2013, Frank Butt was elected as Councillor in the Town of Carbonear. In 2014, he was elected Deputy Mayor and in 2017, during the general election, he was elected Mayor and still holds this position.

Frank Butt has volunteered countless hours in his community helping individuals and organizations. Some of these include; 32 years as a proud member of the Carbonear Volunteer Fire Department, Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Member of the UA Local 740.

He has also participated in the following; Heart and Stroke Association, Canadian Blood Services, Poppy Fund Campaign, Coats for Kids.

Frank is married to his wife Karen of 32 years and has two young adults, Dylan and Kristian. He enjoys walking, listening to people’s concerns and having a relaxing fire in the backyard.
