St. John’s, NL (April 7, 2025) – Craig Pardy, PC Official Opposition Shadow Minister for Children, Seniors and Social Development and MHA for Bonavista, today raised new concerns about the Auditor General’s (AG) scathing report into personal care homes in the province. Pardy is questioning Government’s enforcement of its Adult Protection Act, which is supposed to protect our province’s vulnerable individuals.

The AG highlighted serious concerns about the oversight and supervision of personal care homes. The report outlined allegations of accidental death, sexual assault, and neglect.

Pardy said Government passed the new Adult Protection Act in 2021 to help protect vulnerable individuals, including seniors in personal care homes.

“Has the Minister responsible for seniors ordered an investigation under the Adult Protection Act? Seniors have been abused and neglected, and I believe the public wants to hear from this Minister.”

Pardy added it is ironic that the Minister issued a press release on April 4 to celebrate the launch of a new guide for seniors that included information on the Adult Protection Act.

“After a decade of inaction, despite repeated complaints and reports, it is time for immediate action. Our seniors deserve better,” concluded Pardy.
