(January 27, 2021) – PC Leader Ches Crosbie says a PC government will develop a new tourism strategy to ensure a vibrant, post-pandemic tourism industry for Newfoundland and Labrador. A PC government will work closely with Hospitality NL to ensure a competitive tourism industry, supporting the more than 20,000 workers in the industry. “After air access to Newfoundland and Labrador has dwindled under the Liberal government, it’s time for innovation and imagination in the tourism industry to maximize job creation, particularly in rural parts of the province,” said Crosbie.
A PC government would:
• Develop multi-season tourism attractions with supporting infrastructure and services to increase accessibility.
• Take action on air access, working with airlines and stakeholders to develop an air access strategy to increase routes to the province, especially in peak tourism seasons.
• Promote staycations to encourage local populations to support the local economy, while positioning Newfoundland and Labrador as a destination across Canada.
• Work with tourism operators to develop marking campaigns in Europe and Asia to capture markets around the world.
• Conduct an in-depth review of tourism regulations, taxes and fees to increase fairness in the business environment
“The tourism industry is going to be a key driver of the economy of Newfoundland and Labrador. It’s crucial we capitalize on the natural beauty of our province and give business owners the opportunity to create unforgettable attractions to grow our local economy,” said Jim Goudie, PC Candidate for Humber-Gros Morne.
