(January 28, 2021) – PC Leader Ches Crosbie says a PC government will fight for the offshore oil and gas industry and the thousands of jobs attached to the industry.
The Furey Liberals have bent the knee to the Trudeau Liberals and have given up on the offshore oil and gas industry, choosing to act only when it’s too late, says Crosbie.
Our offshore industry needs dramatic support to preserve jobs and create new jobs,” said Crosbie.
“But instead, our industry has been met with hostility from the Trudeau Liberals who want to see the industry wither and die, and appeasement by the provincial Liberals eager to receive scraps from the
federal table.”
A PC Government will:
• Drive growth in the oil and gas sector, while working to meet emissions targets and meet global climate change goals
• Support workers on the West White Rose, Terra Nova, and Bay du Nord developments by demanding federal support and making targeted provincial equity investments where needed.
• Start a joint feasibility study in partnership with industry on the development of Newfoundland and Labrador’s natural gas resources
• Adopt a life of field perspective on oil and gas development to ensure local economic benefits and local jobs, from land tenure to exploration, production, and decommissioning.
• Take a personal interest in the sale of the Come By Chance Refinery, ensuring obstacles to the sale are removed so Newfoundlanders and Labradorians can get back to work.
“As Premier, I will relentlessly fight for the hard-working men and women whose livelihoods depend on our offshore. I will never give up on you,” said Crosbie.
“I will be your champion.”
