2,700 jobs losses in January more evidence Liberals have failed economy: Crosbie

(February 7, 2021) – : PC Leader Ches Crosbie says a drop of 2,700 full-time workers in Newfoundland and Labrador is another sign the Liberals are not the party of growth this province needs. The Statistics Canada report shows almost all the jobs were full-time workers, largely from the transportation, warehousing, and financial industries in the province.

“The Liberal government doesn’t understand how to grow the economy, plain and simple. Even when they tried to maintain jobs by giving money to Husky Energy (now Cenovus), the company turned around and laid people off the very next day,” said Crosbie. More than that, the province still has the highest unemployment rate in the country at 12.8 per cent.

“The January job numbers are just more evidence that if voters want a government that puts job creation and economic growth first, they must vote for a PC Government. Cuts to the economy will not bring back
jobs to the province. Only a targeted, direct approach presented by a PC government will end the jobs crisis in our province,” said Crosbie.
