(February 8, 2021) – : Jim Lester, PC Candidate for Mount Pearl North, and Paul Dinn, PC Candidate for Topsail-Paradise encourages anyone who requires COVID-19 testing to use the expanded drive-through
testing sites arranged by Eastern Health.

On Sunday, Eastern Health opened another by-appointment drive-through testing clinic at 50 Mundy Pond Road, in response to increased demand for COVID-19 testing on the Northeast Avalon. As well, hours for the drive-through testing sites at the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre and at the Waterford Hospital have been extended to meet the increased demand.

There are also drive-through testing sites in Harbour Grace and Clarenville that people can use to reduce capacity at the other testing sites.

“I encourage everyone who needs a COVID-19 test to get a test as quickly as possible. We can work together to halt the spread of COVID-19 in our communities. Remember: wear your mask, wash your
hands, and keep your distance,” said Lester.

Anyone with concerns over any potential exposure are encouraged to complete the COVID-19 self-assessment tool at 811healthline.ca before calling 811 to ensure phone lines are dedicated to those who
know they must arrange testing first.

“Using the online tool first can help streamline the COVID-19 testing process and ensure those who need tests the most are getting attention first. We don’t need 811 overwhelmed at a time of greatest need,” said
Dinn.

“It has been a recurrent comment on the doorsteps during this campaign that this is not the best time for an election despite Andrew Furey saying this is the safest time to hold a provincial election. People are still
risking exposure to COVID-19 in our communities and politics should never be put ahead of public health. I
hope people stay calm and stay safe and heed the direction of our Chief Medical Office of Health.”
