(February 25, 2021) – Either Premier Andrew Furey is misleading the public about the Greene Report, or he has failed to follow his own terms of reference. Either way, PC Party leader Ches Crosbie says Andrew Fury needs to come clean.
Earlier today, the Premier said he and Moya Greene do not speak about the contents of her upcoming report. He went on to say he didn’t know whether the report would be delivered by the Sunday, February 28 deadline.
The problem is the Premier’s explanation doesn’t jive with the Terms of Reference of the Premier’s Economic Recovery Team (PERT), which clearly state:
“The Chairperson [Greene] will communicate with the Premier and Clerk of the Executive Council on a weekly basis. This will be an update on progress and to discuss the work of the PERT.”
Crosbie says either the Premier is violating his own instructions to the committee, or he’s misleading the public.
“The people of Newfoundland and Labrador are tired of Andrew Furey’s continuously changing stories on the Greene Report,” said Crosbie. “It’s a sad state of affairs when the public can’t trust their Premier to be truthful with something as important as the Greene Report.”
Crosbie is calling on Furey to either admit he has violated his own Terms of Reference or come clean about his conversations with Moya Greene. He also wants the Premier to commit to publicly releasing the Greene Report as soon as he receives the report on Sunday.
“It’s time for Andrew Furey to stop this sad charade and finally level with the people of Newfoundland andLabrador about his government’s secret plan for big cuts and lost jobs,” said Crosbie. “Andrew Furey must commit to releasing the Greene Report this Sunday – no more excuses.”
Crosbie will be available to media via a Zoom news conference at 1:45 p.m. Members of the media are asked to request an invitation to the conference in advance of the conference.
