(February 25, 2021) – After ducking and hiding from tough conversations for days, Andrew Furey will finally face the press. PC Leader Ches Crosbie says there are three “yes or no” questions Andrew Furey must answer today:
1) Will Andrew Furey release the Greene Report upon receipt?
Andrew Furey has committed to releasing the Greene Report to the public as soon as he receives it. He must keep this promise to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
2) Did Andrew Furey ask the Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, whether it was safe to hold a provincial election now?
Andrew Furey told the voters this was a safe time to hold an election, but now a new COVID-19 outbreak has thrust our democracy into chaos. Voters deserve to know whether the Premier had discussions with Dr. Fitzgerald before calling the election.
3) Does Andrew Furey agree the election rules, which disallow in-person voting and disenfranchise thousands of voters, are fair?
We’re on track for a record low voter turnout. Community organizations that normally help voters who don’t have identification or a fixed address are unable to provide much-needed assistance. Andrew Furey needs to clarify whether he views this as a problem.
Crosbie says Andrew Furey must stop skirting important issues and face the voters by answering these critical questions.
“On these issues and many others, Andrew Furey has been missing in action for days,” said Crosbie.
“We’ve already seen how bad things can get when the Premier simply says ‘ just trust me.’ It’s time for the Premier to stop his peekaboo communications strategy and be square with the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.”
