Greene Report delay confirms our worst fears: Crosbie
Crosbie says that, given Moya Greene’s world class reputation as a professional, her reasons for needing a delay lack credibility.

(February 27, 2021) – Progressive Conservative Leader Ches Crosbie says the news of the delayed Greene Report proves the only way to prevent deep cuts, lost jobs, and the gutting of rural services is to vote for the Progressive Conservative Party.

“No one believes that the pandemic has delayed Moya Greene from the work she was conducting in England,” said Crosbie. “But people do believe that Mr. Furey and the Liberals will stop at absolutely nothing to keep the truth about their secret plan for deep cuts, job losses, and gutting rural communities under wraps during the election. Today’s news, essentially, confirms our worst fears about the Greene Report.”

Crosbie says that, given Moya Greene’s world class reputation as a professional, her reasons for needing a delay lack credibility.

In her news conference this morning, Greene stated she told the Clerk of the Executive Council, who reports directly to the Premier, about the delay ten days ago. Still, it was just this week that Andrew Furey told the people of the province he had no idea of the report’s progress.

Crosbie says it’s unbelievable to think the Clerk wouldn’t brief the Premier.

“Which schools are the Liberals going to close? Which hospitals are the Liberals going to shut down? Which public college campuses will the Liberals axe? These are the questions people were expecting answers to today,” said Crosbie. “But what we really got are more lame, uncredible excuses from a failed Premier.”

Crosbie says Furey needs to finally be honest with the people of Newfoundland and Labrador about his role in the ongoing Greene Report coverup. The PC Leader pointed out:

• Andrew Furey instructed his Ministers to “implement” the Greene Report in mandate letters, then turned around and told the public that the report’s contents would merely be “ideas for discussion.”

• Andrew Furey said he had no idea when the Greene Report would be released, but his top lieutenant in government knew about the delay ten days ago.

• Andrew Furey denied having any knowledge of the Greene Report’s contents, but the terms of reference for her work indicate that he is to hold weekly meetings with her.

“The Premier hasn’t been honest about the Greene Report from day one,” said Crosbie. “The people deserve the truth today, not more Liberal lies.”
