(March 12, 2021) – : PC Leader Ches Crosbie says a disturbing new report from Statistics Canada proves Newfoundland and Labrador desperately needs a government with a plan to Bring Back Jobs and get our province working again.
According to Statistics Canada, the province shed 15,000 jobs in February. The labour force also shrunk by 10,000.
“The top priority of a PC government will be to Bring Back Jobs, full stop,” said Crosbie. “We are the only party to put jobs and economic growth at the forefront of our campaign, and we are the only party with a concrete plan to get our province working again. While the Liberals’ top priority will be to implement their secret plan for big cuts, Progressive Conservatives will focus like a laser on job growth.”
A PC government will:
• Lower taxes and offer new tax credits to stimulate job growth, including a hiring tax credit to allow businesses to hire more people;
• Reduce payroll tax on full-time employees to encourage full-time employment over precarious part-time work;
• Slash red tape to make accessing government services more efficient – if it costs $11 to make $10, the policy must be reviewed; and
• View every government policy through a Job Creation lens to increase employment in all sectors of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Crosbie says Newfoundland and Labrador was facing an economic crisis long before the pandemic hit.
COVID-19 has only made an already bad situation worse.
“The Liberals have ignored our jobs crisis for half a decade. Their only ideas are to hire others to tell them how to cut public services and slash jobs,” said Crosbie. “Our province has everything it takes to succeed. The only thing we’re missing is a government with a plan to Bring Back Jobs. That’s exactly what we’re offering the people of Newfoundland and Labrador in this election campaign.”
The PC leader says the voters have a choice to make.
“It’s growth with a PC government or big cuts under the Liberals.”
