(March 13, 2021) – Damian Follett, PC Candidate for Mount Scio, is wishing Newfoundland and Labrador a Happy St. Patrick’s Day and urging residents to support local this weekend.

“This weekend is usually a busy time for restaurants, bars, and musicians alike, but we know it can’t be quite the same this year,” said Follet.

“That’s why Progressive Conservatives are encouraging Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to buy a local album, order food from a local establishment, and be generous at the tip jar when supporting local musicians this weekend.”
Supporting local businesses, especially our tourism and cultural sectors, is a key part of the Progressive Conservative plan to Bring Back Jobs and get our province working again.

A PC Government will:

• Develop multi-season tourism attractions with supporting infrastructure and services to increase
accessibility;

• Take action on air access, working with airlines and stakeholders to develop an air access
strategy to increase routes to the province, especially in peak tourism seasons;

• Promote staycations to encourage local populations to support the local economy, while
positioning Newfoundland and Labrador as a destination across Canada;

• Work with tourism operators to develop marketing campaigns in Europe and Asia to capture
markets around the world; and

• Conduct an in-depth review of tourism regulations, taxes and fees to increase fairness in the
business environment.

“Let’s remember to support local businesses and artists to ensure Newfoundland and Labrador comes back stronger than ever when COVID-19 is behind us,” said Follett.
