(March 16, 2021) – PC Leader Ches Crosbie has written a letter to Clerk of the Executive Council Gary Norris asking him to unseal the modelling information being hidden by the Furey government.

The Clerk of the Executive Council has legislative authority to unseal cabinet records where the Clerk is “satisfied that the public interest in the disclosure of the information outweighs the reason for the exception,” according to Subsection 27 of ATTIPA legislation.

“It’s obvious these models are in the public interest and should be disclosed. Not only should the public know the basis on which Andrew Furey threw the province into this needless election in the middle of a pandemic, but the Premier referenced a potential spike in cases at the end of March as part of his rationale for the early election,” said Crosbie.

Crosbie says the Clerk needs to clear the air today and provide the leadership Andrew Furey won’t.

“If indeed the province faces the risk of another wave of COVID-19, then the public has a right to know that information and prepare for it,” said Crosbie. “The Clerk should exercise his legislative authority and show the people the facts.”
