(March 31, 2021) – The Progressive Conservative Caucus is proud to announce the appointment of Conception Bay East-Bell Island MHA David Brazil as interim leader of the Progressive Conservative Party.
“David Brazil is the right fit for interim leader of the party as the next steps are taken to ready the PC Party for the next general election. An MHA since 2010, Brazil is well respected across the province and across party lines. He will bring steady leadership to the party,” said PC Party President Eugene Manning.
“With solid leadership in the House of Assembly, the party can focus on the next steps and ensuring the party is well positioned to form government in the next provincial election.”
Per the constitution of the PC Party of Newfoundland and Labrador, Brazil will remain interim leader of the party until a leadership convention is held at a later date. Interim leaders cannot run in the ensuing leadership race for the party.
“I’m humbled and proud to have the faith of my caucus colleagues to lead the caucus in the House of Assembly. This moment in the history of Newfoundland and Labrador demands strong leadership and accountability for the people of the province,” said Brazil.
Brazil extended his well-wishes to out-going leader Ches Crosbie and thanked him for his service to the party.
“Mr. Crosbie’s leadership has been thoughtful, dedicated, and tireless since he entered politics in 2018. The entire party owes him a debt of gratitude for his relentless efforts to improve the party’s standing in the House of Assembly.”
Also on Wednesday, Brazil appointed Conception Bay South MHA Barry Petten as Opposition House Leader.
“Barry brings a wealth of experience to this important role in the Legislature. He’s the right person for the job,” said Brazil.
