(April 12, 2021) – PC Opposition Leader David Brazil, on behalf of the PC Opposition caucus, congratulates Derek Bennett for his election as Speaker of the House of Assembly.

“The role of Speaker is an historic and important role in our democracy. I congratulate Speaker Bennett for gaining the confidence of the legislature. I wish him nothing but the best in the role and navigating the House of Assembly through the challenges ahead of Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Brazil.

Paul Dinn, MHA for Topsail-Paradise also extended his congratulations to Bennett.

“The role of Speaker is integral to the daily functioning of democracy and while I would have reveled in the opportunity to take on the role, I’m delighted for Speaker Bennett. I will continue advocating for the issues that matter to the constituents of Topsail-Paradise,” said Dinn.
