(May 3, 2021) – Lloyd Parrott, PC Opposition Shadow Minister of Industry, Energy, and Technology and MHA for Terra Nova, is calling on the Liberal Provincial and Federal Governments to act swiftly and implement the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Recovery Task Force’s report.
“I wish to thank the members of the Oil and Gas Recovery Task Force. The report made it clear that immediate and significant support is needed to ensure the future of our oil and gas industry. To be frank, I am disappointed in the Liberals for letting the state of the industry get this bad,” said Parrott.
“Many of the recommendations which are included in the report are not new, the Liberals should have protected our industry and should have already acted in the best interest of our industry and province.”
Parrott says the Oil and Gas Recovery Task Force Report shows a lack of progress from the Liberals’ own Advance 2030 plan for the offshore.
“The Task Force Report also demonstrates that the Liberals are failing to achieve their own goals outlined in Advanced 2030. One of which is to ensure that our jurisdiction is competitive for investment and development. Without being globally competitive, investment and jobs will leave our province for international areas,” said Parrott.
While reports are being tabled and reviewed, Parrott says real opportunities in the oil and gas sector remain idle. Parrott called on Minister Parsons to update the province on the status of the West White Rose, Terra Nova FPSO, and Bay du Nord projects.
“We need strong commitments from government to maximize the potential of our offshore oil and gas, as the 2021 PC Blue Book has clearly outlined. We need growth in our industry, including oil and gas production, maximizing infrastructure in Bull Arm, Marystown, and Bay Bulls, and to take a life of field approach to development,” said Parrott.
“The Oil and Gas Task Force Report is a desperate plea from an industry that needs support. I will continue to stand up for the industry and to ensure the Liberals, both provincial and federal, do everything they can to support our offshore.”
