(October 5, 2021) – Pleaman Forsey, MHA for Exploits, is expressing his concern over a lack of COVID-19 testing available in the Exploits district, as COVID-19 cases rise.
“Central Health today confirmed all testing for COVID-19 for those who have been asked to be tested in the region will take place in Grand Falls-Windsor. That means anyone who has potentially been exposed to the virus has to travel around 45 minutes to get their test,” said Forsey.
“I worry what that means for the surrounding region. If someone were to make the mistake of stopping into a nearby gas station or coffee shop during their travel, it could mean further exposure in the area. Testing has to be fast and accessible to help curb the spread of the virus in the region.”
Forsey says he’s been told the lack of testing in the district is the result of a lack of staffing available in the area.
Forsey encourages everyone in the region who is eligible for a vaccine but not received one to book an appointment as soon as possible.
“I’ve been double vaccinated in an effort to protect myself, my family, and my community. It’s everyone’s duty to their neighbor to keep each other safe and vaccinations are a safe, effective way to help,” said Forsey.
“Do your part and get your vaccine as soon as you’re able. Let’s work to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the district of Exploits and throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.”
