(October 28, 2021) – Jeff Dwyer, PC MHA for Placentia West-Bellevue, says his constituents are expressing their frustration with the way information is being shared throughout the COVID-19 outbreak in the Marystown region.
The province has halted daily COVID-19 updates, with the suggestion that fewer updates is part of learning to live with COVID-19 in society.
“That’s not much help to the people of the Marystown area who are concerned about the outbreak. Right now, information is being shared late in the evening with local officials, leaving residents going for most of the day without any indication of the status of the outbreak” said Dwyer.
“It’s creating confusion for the community. The people in my district feel they’re being forgotten, as this outbreak is somehow different from the ones we’ve seen elsewhere in the province. Daily public updates from the department at the usual 2:00 p.m. would help ease the confusion being felt in my district.”
Dwyer once again thanked Eastern Health and public health for their efforts to date, but he hopes more information can be available until the situation is fully contained.
“Public health is doing a good job as they always have, but this is about how the department shares the information with the people most affected,” said Dwyer.
“Let’s make sure everyone is informed as quickly and completely as possible as this situation continues.”
