(April 06, 2022) – David Brazil, PC Official Opposition Leader, and Lloyd Parrott, PC Official Opposition Shadow Minister for Industry, Energy, and Technology, welcome Wednesday evening’s news of federal approval for the Bay du Nord project, despite the Federal Liberals causing such anxiety amongst the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
“The Bay du Nord project has always been the right project for Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada. The dithering of the Federal Environment Minister was political theatre to appease Cabinet Ministers in British Columbia and Ontario. The facts have shone through: carbon-neutral oil and gas developments should be encouraged,” said Brazil.
“The PC Official Opposition has relentlessly advocated for this project, for the economic future of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the hardworking families who rely on this industry to ensure their future here at home. Today’s news is welcome, but we await the details of the agreement to ensure it protects the interests of the people of our province.”
Parrott says it’s the people of Newfoundland and Labrador who deserve thanks for ensuring the Federal Liberals saw the benefits of this project.
“The people of Newfoundland and Labrador spoke up and the PC Official Opposition is proud to stand with them in support of this project. We cannot allow Ottawa to decide the future of Newfoundland and Labrador and that message was sent loud and clear to the Federal Liberals,” said Parrott.
“Now we can focus on what’s important: ensuring maximum work is done here at home, by the hardworking tradespeople of our province to support the families who rely on our industry. Let’s get to work to ensure a bright, prosperous future for Newfoundland and Labrador.”
