(April 28, 2022) – Tony Wakeham, PC Official Opposition Shadow Minister of Finance and MHA for Stephenville-Port au Port, continues to repeat the call for action to address the rising cost of living, a call he has been making for the last 200 days.
“The people of Newfoundland and Labrador need help. It seems obvious to everyone except the Premier and the Minister of Finance. People are calling our offices each and every day with their stories of cost of living struggles. ” said Wakeham.
“We have been drawing attention to this issue for over 200 days, while the Furey budget provided only smoke and mirrors to try and make people believe they were trying to address the issue.”
Wakeham says the Liberals tried to calm the waters with budget measures that simply do not go far enough to help the people of our province.
“The Liberals put together an ill-informed graphic, made miniscule changes to income support programs, and called it a day. They did not pay attention to where the people of our province need support: in their gas tank, in their home heating fuel tank, at the grocery store. They want people to stop talking about this massive issue – I assure them, these calls will continue until meaningful action is taken.”
“For over 200 days the rising cost of living has been forcing people to make hard decisions. It is beyond time that the Liberal government gave up their public relations campaign and make the decision to help – a decision that’s 200 days too late.”
