(May 2, 2022) – David Brazil, PC Official Opposition Leader and MHA for Conception Bay East-Bell Island, says he is appalled to see government shut down the Emergency Debate proposed by the Official Opposition on Monday.

“The rising cost of living is putting extraordinary pressure on everyone in Newfoundland and Labrador. Whether at the gas station, on the grocery shelves, or even at the pharmacy, the rising cost of essentials is pushing the impoverished further behind, our seniors to foodbanks, and middle class families to the brink,” said Brazil.

“Yet, the Liberals continue to choose to sit on their hands. The Official Opposition is ready to talk about solutions, to talk about steps to be taken today to help the people of our province in all walks of life who are feeling the crunch. The Liberal government wants to ignore the issue and skate by until their next photo-op.”

Brazil says the Liberals don’t even want to talk about the cost of living crisis, while the PC Official Opposition seeks meaningful solutions.

“The Premier promised action to help those struggling with the cost of living. Instead, he offered miniscule boosts to low-income supports, but completely ignored the high cost of fuel which is driving this crisis,” said Brazil.

“The Premier has options, but he refuses to take them. He refuses to listen to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador who are crying out for help. We are ready to sit down and find solutions on behalf of the people of our province, and shutting down this debate will not silence our cause.”
