(May 3, 2022) – David Brazil, PC Official Opposition Leader and MHA for Conception Bay East-Bell Island, is outraged the Rothschilds’ report will not be publicly released – and the Premier misled the people of the province about how it could be released.

On April 6, Premier Furey stated:

“The report, if ATIPPed, will be redacted accordingly and in accordance with the legislation and we'll move from there, Mr. Speaker.”

On Tuesday, it was revealed the report is considered a “cabinet document” and will not be released, not even a version with redactions.

“Was the Premier misinformed or misinforming the people of Newfoundland and Labrador with his statement? Not only will his Minister not do the right thing and release the report publicly, but even through the ATIPP process the document is being hidden behind cabinet confidence,” said Brazil.

“The Premier knew it was a cabinet document when he made his statement. He has control over what is and is not a cabinet document. I call on the Premier to do the right thing: release this report, with necessary redactions, and finally be honest with the people of our province about what they intend to do with our assets.”

Brazil says the people have a right to know.

“The Premier spent $5 million of the people’s money to hire the Rothschilds to evaluate the people’s assets. Now, he’s hiding the report from the people of our province, who paid for the report. This is shameful behavior from this government and from the Premier,” said Brazil.

“Premier Furey: do the right thing. Release the Rothschilds report.”
