(May 12, 2022, St. John's) – David Brazil, PC Official Opposition Leader and MHA for Conception Bay East-Bell Island, says the Liberal’s out-of-touch budget passed on Thursday evening, despite the Premier and Finance Minister admitting it does not go far enough to help the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
“Premier Furey and Minister Coady are both on record as stating the cost of living measures introduced in their budget do not go far enough and more is needed. Yet, they passed their budget without a single additional measure to help the people of Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Brazil.
“This budget reflects the lack of concern this Liberal Government has for the people of the province. To make matters worse, the Premier did not even take the time to speak to his budget. This is an insult to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Premier is out of touch with the people of our province who are simply trying to make ends meet. Is this how the Premier shows confidence in his own agenda?”
“All we’ve heard from the Premier and the Minister is excuses for why they cannot take action. The people of Newfoundland and Labrador are tired of excuses – they need action. They need a home heating fuel rebate, they need relief from tax on gasoline – they need a government that listens to their concerns,” said Brazil.
“We will continue our advocacy, we will continue to fight Liberal tax increases, and until the Premier and the Minister take meaningful action, we will not stop advocating for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.”
