(June 29, 2022) – MHA for Ferryland and Shadow Minister for Service NL, Loyola O’Driscoll, is calling upon Minister Stoodley to make changes to improve the working conditions and customer service within the Motor Vehicles Division.
“Last week I was alarmed to hear that the number of highway enforcement officers within the province is 21, down from 47 in 2008. I continually hear that there is an excessively high number of vacancies throughout the Motor Vehicles Division, leading to increased stress and pressure on workers, and a decline in customer service and safety on our roadways,” said O’Driscoll.
O’Driscoll continued to note that the Motor Vehicles Division has been plagued with problems and that those employed within the division deserve better.
“No one wants to work in an organization where they are unappreciated or where allegations of bullying and harassment are present. Additionally, no one wants to work in a division where there is a staff shortage or where the primary online customer service system (myGovNL) suffers problems, thus increasing pressures for on-site staff,” continued O’Driscoll.
“The Minister must step in and fix the culture, working conditions, and vacancies within the division of Motor Registration; she must ensure that workers are appreciated and appropriately supported. When this is done, the customer service and safety on our highways will improve,” concluded O’Driscoll.
