30th Anniversary of the Cod Moratorium and Still No Cod Recovery Plan in Sight: Pardy
Craig Pardy is calling upon provincial Minister Bragg and federal Minister Murray to finally release a cod recovery plan for Newfoundland and Labrador.

(June 30, 2022) – MHA for Bonavista and Shadow Minister for Fisheries, Craig Pardy, is calling upon provincial Minister Bragg and federal Minister Murray to finally release a cod recovery plan for Newfoundland and Labrador.

July 2nd is the 30th anniversary of the cod moratorium and there still isn’t a plan in place for the recovery of cod stocks, once vital to Newfoundland and Labrador.

Pardy says, “On the 30th anniversary of the cod moratorium we are still no further ahead in a plan of action to grow cod stocks – a fishery that is ingrained in the very identity of Newfoundland and Labrador. For the majority of those 30 years, Liberals have been in power both provincially and federally without action.”

In the past two elections, the PC Official Opposition’s platform has included the importance of a joint cod recovery plan with the federal government.

“It’s fine for the federal Minister to acknowledge that ‘seals eat fish’. Ok, well where is the plan to address seal predation on our fish stocks, including the recovery of cod? When will our provincial Minister finally convince his federal counterpart to release a plan for rebuilding these stocks? We owe it to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador to address this once and for all,” says Pardy.
