(July 13, 2022) – Paul Dinn, PC Official Opposition Shadow Minister of Health and Community Services and MHA for Topsail-Paradise, is extending his condolences to the loved ones of Weijian Fang.
“Mr. Fang was clearly a dedicated, compassionate member of our community, whose life touched many in our province before his tragic passing. My sincere condolences to all who knew and loved Mr. Fang,” said Dinn.
“It’s clear our healthcare system failed this young man. Despite multiple trips to the emergency room, he did not get the right care at the right time. Mr. Fang’s story, and others like it, are not acceptable to the people of our province.”
Dinn says it’s time for the Department of Health and Minister Osborne to review the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
“The tragic story of Mr. Fang raises serious concerns. How was the situation allowed to escalate as it did, despite Mr. Fang’s efforts to seek help? Would this story be different had Mr. Fang had access to a family physician who could monitor his condition? We simply need to understand how this tragedy was allowed to happen,” said Dinn.
“Everyone who calls Newfoundland and Labrador home cannot afford to fall through the cracks of our healthcare system. The stakes are too high for everyone who calls our province home. We must take every effort to prevent similar tragedies from befalling the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.”
