Furey’s failures keep stacking up: Brazil
Brazil says the failures of the Furey Government on healthcare, cost of living, and on attracting and retaining newcomers continue to pile up, to the detriment of everyone who calls Newfoundland and Labrador home.

(July 19, 2022) – David Brazil, PC Official Opposition Leader and MHA for Conception Bay East-Bell Island, says the failures of the Furey Government on healthcare, cost of living, and on attracting and retaining newcomers continue to pile up, to the detriment of everyone who calls Newfoundland and Labrador home.

“We have highly trained refugees in our province with healthcare expertise that are being ignored while other provinces are actively recruiting these individuals. The Furey Liberal Government’s ‘photo-op first’ policy is not going to fix the healthcare crisis in Newfoundland and Labrador, nor will it retain highly skilled newcomers to Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Brazil.

“Adding to that, doctors from our province that want to be here are given the run-around while the Premier attempts to make good news announcements in communities as their emergency room closes.

“Quite frankly, how can the people of Newfoundland and Labrador have confidence in the Furey Liberal government to fix anything?”

The Furey Liberal government failures are difficult to reconcile when our Atlantic Canadian neighbours are demonstrating success.

“I had the opportunity to meet with Premier Houston of Nova Scotia recently and to see the success they are having in both healthcare recruitment and economic growth. Nova Scotia has recruited almost 100 new doctors in the last year alone. If Newfoundland and Labrador had similar success for a few consecutive years our physician problem would be solved,” said Brazil.

“On top of that, Nova Scotia is positioning itself as the hub of Atlantic Canada for economic growth. They are demonstrating best-in-class growth in the private sector while the Furey Liberal government appears to sit on its hands. Newfoundland and Labrador has limitless potential and we continue to see this Liberal government squander that opportunity.”
