(November 17, 2022, St. John’s) – David Brazil, PC Official Opposition Leader and MHA for Conception Bay East-Bell Island, is congratulating the workers, offshore and onshore, who have made the Hibernia platform the cornerstone of the Newfoundland and Labrador economy over the last 25 years.
“For 25 years, the Hibernia project has shown what happens when the federal and provincial governments work together to strengthen the economy of Newfoundland and Labrador. It was a hard-fought effort, led by the Honourable John C. Crosbie, to see the offshore industry launched in our province. 25 years later, we are still seeing the benefits every single day in our province,” said Brazil.
“As we look to a green future, we know the existing projects offshore Newfoundland and Labrador are vital to funding the transition. Hibernia will remain fundamental to the success of our offshore industry and will be key in unlocking the potential of our province as we look to the future.”
Brazil extended his congratulations to all those who have made the Hibernia project the jewel the crown of our offshore industry.
“Countless hardworking Newfoundlanders and Labradorians have made their livelihood traveling to and from the platform. It is difficult work, but the safety record of Hibernia is a testament to the professionalism and dedication of these workers to running a world class operation,” said Brazil.
“It took hard bargaining, and relentless effort from the PC Party of Newfoundland and Labrador of the day to see the Hibernia project come to reality. I want to thank everyone who made Hibernia happen in the past and congratulate those working to ensure a safe, prosperous future for the platform for the decades to come.”
