Bay du Nord poised to be another giveaway: Brazil
Brazil is reacting to news that Equinor is planning to build the entire Bay du Nord FPSO outside of the province.

(January 25, 2023, St. John’s) – David Brazil, PC Official Opposition Leader and MHA for Conception Bay East-Bell Island, is reacting to news that Equinor is planning to build the entire Bay du Nord FPSO outside of the province.

“It is completely unacceptable that Equinor is planning to build 100% of the Floating Production Storage and Offloading platform (FPSO) outside the province. Newfoundland and Labrador is home to talented and hardworking tradespersons and local companies who are well positioned to work on this project,” said Brazil.

“The PC Party of Newfoundland and Labrador has long stood for community benefits agreements to ensure our resources benefit the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. Letting companies exploit our resources while creating little value and no jobs in the province is simply not on.”

Brazil called upon the Liberal government to stand up for Newfoundland and Labrador.

“Where is the benefits agreement for this project? Where is the Newfoundland and Labrador first policy? This is our resource. As much work as possible should be undertaken in this province to provide well-paying jobs for our workforce, to stimulate our local economy, and to help train the next generation of tradespeople,” continued Brazil.

“The Liberals have an opportunity to require Equinor to employ local companies and tradespersons. Unfortunately, as we saw with the Terra Nova FPSO refit, that work went overseas. If this project leaves our province, it will be the fault of Premier Furey and his Liberal Government.”
