(April 21, 2023, St. John’s) – Barry Petten, Shadow Minister for Industry, Energy, and Technology and MHA for Conception Bay South, is raising questions about the Terra Nova FPSO following reports that the vessel has returned to Bull Arm and additional work is needed before production can resume.

“The Terra Nova FPSO has been out of service since late 2019. The vessel was given public money to encourage the Asset Life Extension. The vessel was sent to Spain so that the needed work could be done and that the vessel could return to service immediately upon its return. Now, additional work must be carried out before the vessel can return to production,” said Petten.

Petten raised the following questions, noting details regarding the future of the Terra Nova FPSO and resumption of production remain unanswered.

“The Terra Nova FPSO is a source of jobs and oil royalties for the province. There are outstanding questions that must be answered: what work is being completed at Bull Arm? Was the work completed in Spain substandard? Are Newfoundlanders and Labradorians now re-doing this work? Will the vessel have to leave the province again, if so why? When will production resume?” continued Petten.

“All future maintenance work must be completed by Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. Did the vessel leave the province, only to come back and require work to be re-done, delaying jobs and production?”
