(May 30, 2023, St. John’s) – Paul Dinn, PC Official Opposition Shadow Minister for Health and Community Services and MHA for Topsail-Paradise, is recognizing the hard work and dedication of the provinces frontline healthcare staff and hopes that they will get a much deserved vacation this coming summer.

The shortage of frontline healthcare staff in Newfoundland and Labrador has forced the closure of many emergency rooms. With the summer months quickly approaching, many frontline healthcare workers will once again be requesting vacations which in the past has been difficult to accommodate.

“Newfoundland and Labrador owes so much to our frontline healthcare workers. I’ve heard from many in the system that are close to their breaking point, so it is critical that Government has a plan in place to ensure proper vacations are available without the need for mandatory overtime,” said Dinn.

Mandatory overtime has been a hot-button issue for keeping emergency rooms functioning in the province.

“In the lead up to the summer season, I hope that our healthcare workers receive the vacations that they deserve and are able to spend time with their loved ones,” said Dinn.

“It is incumbent on government to make this happen, without added stress on workers while ensuring a well-functioning healthcare system.”
