(August 17, 2023, St. John’s) – David Brazil, PC Official Opposition Leader and MHA for Conception Bay East-Bell Island, is encouraged to hear of more exploration in the Flemish Pass by Equinor, but the Liberal Government must be at the table to minimize uncertainty for projects in our offshore.
“Our offshore oil and gas industry offers some of the lowest carbon product available to global markets. It’s important we maximize the value of our assets in the offshore, to help fuel the green transition. The Federal Environment Minister has vowed no more projects in our offshore – does Premier Furey agree?” said Brazil.
“The Liberal Government has sat on the sidelines and watched as uncertainty grows for our offshore industry. We need to understand the future of our industry and how we can maximize the benefits to everyone in our province.”
Brazil is calling on the Liberal government for a long-term plan for our offshore oil and gas industry, to offer clarity to the people of our province and industry alike about the future.
“The Bay du Nord project remains uncertain, but more exploration in the area by Equinor is an encouraging sign for the future of the project. For too long, the Liberal Government has sat and watched uncertainty grow in our valuable offshore oil and gas industry,” said Brazil.
“Thousands of jobs and countless spinoff benefits will come to our province with the Bay du Nord project. We need the Liberal government working to ensure this project happens – not placing barriers before the industry.”
