(November 17, 2023, St. John’s):Loyola O’Driscoll, PC Official Opposition Shadow Minister for Transportation and MHA for Ferryland, says he’s concerned after the Furey Liberals confirmed 24 hour snowclearing is not needed.

O’Driscoll was reacting to Transportation and Infrastructure Minister John Abbott who confirmed on VOCM Openline that Government has no intention of providing 24 hour snow clearing. The Liberal decision ignores our vast geography and weather, while also putting commuting workers at risk.

“We have many healthcare employees who travel for work. We have many tradespeople that commute to Argentia, Long Harbour and Come by Chance. These people work 12 hour shifts that often start early and finish late. It is unfortunate the Furey Liberals continue to stand by a decision they made in 2016 that eliminated 24 hour snow clearing and laid off workers,” said O’Driscoll.

“The Provincial Liberals continue to believe snow and ice conditions only occur 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. The Liberal Government is ignoring common sense, our vast geography and unpredictable weather. It is time for the Liberals to admit their mistake and reinstatement 24 hour snow clearing on our highways!”
