Release Police Report on Death of Donald Dunphy

Paul Davis, Leader of the Official Opposition, is again calling on Justice and Public Safety Minister Andrew Parsons to release the findings of the RCMP report into the shooting death of Donald Dunphy in Mitchell’s Brook on April 5, 2015.

The RCMP advised the Minister that the report was concluded on or about January 29, 2016. The Minister retained the services of the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) to conduct a review of the RCMP investigation, and has rejected calls to release the RCMP report to the public.

Davis said, “It is in the public interest to release the findings of this report without delay so people can learn what the RCMP found during their investigation. The review by ASIRT should not delay the report’s release to the public, and there is no good reason to withhold these findings. A considerable amount of time has passed, and the report can provide answers that the public is seeking. I call on the Minister to release the report now.”

The Minister also stated in December 2015 that he will call a public inquiry into the incident. “It could take several months to establish an inquiry, and there is nothing to prohibit the Minister from launching the public inquiry without further delay and letting the work begin,” said Davis.
