No Action, No Decisions, No Plan to Grow NL’s Economy: Kent

In the House of Assembly on Tuesday, Steve Kent, Official Opposition critic for Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development, questioned the Liberals on their lack of action to grow the province’s economy. “Despite all the meeting and touring and promising, the Liberals have delivered no actions, no decisions and clearly no plan to grow our province’s economy,” said Kent.

Kent contrasted the Liberals’ approach with that of the previous PC government. “Our administration made smart investments in areas like aquaculture, ocean technology, Arctic opportunities, venture capital, rural broadband – strategic investments to diversify the economy,” said Kent.

“But while the Liberals made many campaign promises of an economic plan, a diversification plan, a magical LEAP plan, where is the economic diversification plan they promised to deliver in September 2015? Other than having meetings and carrying on with the previous government’s initiatives, what specific new actions has the government taken to diversify and grow the economy in the last five months? What have they actually taken action on or done specifically related to economic diversification?”

Kent said instead of delivering on their commitments and obligations, the Liberals are playing the blame game, saying “not our fault” and not much else. “The Liberals promised they would unveil a major economic announcement that would create jobs and grow the economy, but there is no evidence that their Liberal Economic Action Plan (LEAP) even exists,” said Kent.
