Hiring of Law Firm for Public Sector Negotiations a Waste of Money

Keith Hutchings, Finance Critic for the Official Opposition, said the Ball government’s decision to hire a law firm, and a strategic communications advisor, for public service negotiations in a time where the Liberals have introduced a budget which will negatively impact people and the economy is disgraceful.

“The government has employees whose job is to handle all aspects of public service negotiations, other employees whose job is to provide the government with legal advice and others whose job is to give the government strategic communications advice. These employees are educated, experienced, highly regarded and paid from the public purse to do this work, so why is the government wasting taxpayers’ money – especially after raising taxes through the roof – to hire outside counsel, at great cost to taxpayers, to do the work that others are already paid to do? Does the government not have confidence in its own employees?” Hutchings asked.
