Your ‘Yes’ Vote on the Budget will Cancel

the Riverside Elementary Project, Mr. Holloway

David Brazil, Education Critic for the Official Opposition, says Terra Nova Liberal MHA Colin Holloway should be honest with his constituents by admitting that it is the Liberals in their 2016 Budget who have cancelled the Riverside Elementary School project, and his ‘yes’ vote for the Budget will support that cancellation.

The Liberals have made the decision the cancel work at Riverside Elementary. It is the PC administration that announced the project and had already awarded the tender in 2015.

In fact, the project was included in the PC government’s 2015 Budget long-term infrastructure plan on page 38: http://www.budget.gov.nl.ca/budget2015/infrastructure/Infrastructure_Ove...

It was highlighted in the PC government’s April 30, 2015 Budget news release on education: http://www.releases.gov.nl.ca/releases/2015/aes/0430n06.aspx

On October 30, 2015, the PC government announced the award of a $644,500 tender for the classroom extension and renovation project to SNC Lavalin Inc.: http://www.releases.gov.nl.ca/releases/2015/tw/1030n17.aspx

Cancellation of the project was announced by the Ball Liberals as one of their bad news Budget announcements in April 2016, where they used the term “deferred indefinitely”: http://www.budget.gov.nl.ca/budget2016/infrastructure/ExpenditureReducti...

Brazil said, “The Liberal MHA for Terra Nova should own up to the implications of his decision to vote ‘yes’ for the Ball government’s Budget. When he votes ‘yes,’ he will be voting to ‘defer indefinitely’ the Riverside Elementary School project that his constituents want. It is his choice to make – to stand with his constituents and vote ‘no’ for the Budget and for the cancellation of the Riverside Elementary project, or to stand against his constituents by voting with his Party, as he has done already. It’s as straightforward as that.”
