Federal and Provincial Liberals Avoid Appearing Together

Paul Davis, Leader of the Official Opposition, said, "Federal and provincial Liberals avoided appearing in public together during the visit of the Prime Minister and federal MPs to avoid awkward questions about the failure of their relationship to deliver what Newfoundland and Labrador needs and deserves. Premier Ball and Liberal MHAs were nowhere to be seen during the Prime Ministers visit."

‎Davis said, "The Prime Minister did not deliver any equalization assistance to help us cope with our severe oil revenue shortfall so we could avoid high taxes, deep service cuts and heavy debt. The Premier has been completely ineffective in advocating for equalization, which is hardly surprising after the Premier publicly stated that our zero portion of the equalization fund 'is what it is’.

"Neither was there any significant infusion of new federal infrastructure money‎ of the magnitude needed to help us cope with the economic consequences of the severe 2016 budget. The Prime Minister travelled to Nova Scotia Tuesday and announced $116 million for water and transit projects.

Davis said, "On one issue after another, the provincial Liberals are proving that their cozy relationship with their federal Liberal cousins is not delivering for Newfoundland and Labrador.

"As a province, we've always had to make our case vigorously and, too often, we've had to fight for fairness, but this provincial Liberal administration is proving to be unwilling to put the province first and unable to deliver. Premier Ball and his Liberal team have gone dark," he said.
