Where's the EY Report on Muskrat Falls?‎ No Answers from Premier or Minister as Costs Rise

Keith Hutchings, Natural Resources Critic for the Official Opposition, is asking where the EY oversight report is – a report which the Liberals noted in December 2015 would cost upwards of $1 million. The report was to be released by the end of March 2016.

A letter to Natural Resources Minister Siobhan Coady sent six weeks ago, which asked a series of questions about Muskrat Falls costs, project assumptions and schedule, has gone unanswered.

"Still today we have no report. What will this consultant's report actually cost? The delayed report is costing taxpayers even more money than the Liberals first projected, but there is no sign of when it is coming or when the taxpayers will get the information and what exactly government is paying for," said Hutchings.

He noted that the EY report duplicates previous work done by the consultant in working with the government's own oversight committee, which has also stopped providing the kind of oversight reporting ‎that it was established to do.

"At a time when crucial fiscal decisions need to be made public, money is being spent on consultants, with no communication to the people of the province. With not just one but two oversight reporting mechanisms in place, the Ball government has an obligation to ‎release information taxpayers are paying for. Why are they hiding the information and ignoring the inquiries about the reports' status?"

"The previous government set up the original oversight process to give taxpayers a timely independent lens on the project, which is one of the largest and most important in the province's history. The Liberals introduced a costly duplicate process and then let the reporting mechanisms grind to a halt, all the while ratcheting up the costs to taxpayers," he said.

"How much will the duplicate EY report end up costing taxpayers to produce information that the existing oversight ‎committee is also expected to be generating? How current will the information be when it's finally released?”
