PC Party Eliminates Debt Nine Months after General Election With Annual Golf Tournament

Paul Davis, Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador, said, "We are delighted that the PC Party has been able to wipe out its debt just nine months after the general election with fundraising efforts including a very successful annual golf tournament this week, supported by a strong showing of 32 teams. Our fundraising committee, volunteers and supporters have helped place the PC Party in good financial footing as we continue our work to prepare for the next provincial election."

"It is remarkable that an Opposition party, within a year of a general election, is able to declare itself debt-free, but these are remarkable times. ‎We are now focused on building an election fund required to wage a vigorous campaign in the next general election, which must be held by 2019 and could well come much sooner," said Davis.

"We were elected by the people and given a mandate to form the Official Opposition, and must never lose sight of our responsibility to the people of our province. Our obligation as a Party is to ensure Newfoundlanders and Labradorians have a viable alternative to the current government, which has ‎fallen dramatically in public satisfaction by failing to deliver the kind of leadership they have an obligation to deliver," he said.

"At our Party's convention and annual general meeting a month from now, we will move forward to fulfill our obligation to ensure the PC Party is prepared to offer voters in all 40 districts a solid alternative in the coming general election," said Mark Whiffen, PC Party President. "Eliminating the Party's debt is a significant step that demonstrates clearly to people that we are doing what we need to do to be ready, and our approach is working."
