Davis Sends Sympathies to Prentice Family; Recalls His Love for Newfoundland and Labrador

Paul Davis, Leader of the Official Opposition and PC Party of Newfoundland and Labrador, expressed his sympathies to the family of former Alberta Premier, Alberta PC Party‎ Leader and federal Cabinet Minister Jim Prentice, who was among four people to die in a plane crash on Friday.

"All of us were shocked to hear the tragic news. ‎We express our deepest sympathies to the Prentice family and to all the families and friends of those who died in the plane crash in British Columbia on Friday," said Davis.

"Jim Prentice made an enormous contribution to our country during his years of service as a federal Cabinet Minister and as Alberta's Premier and PC Party Leader.

"He had a particular love for the natural beauty of our province. As the federal Environment Minister who toured the Torngat Mountains National Park in 2010, he described the Labrador park as an 'exquisite jewel' ‎that is 'unsurpassed' in Canada's national park system. He said 'it may well be the most beautiful and diverse park in the entire system; it is absolutely spectacular'.

‎"His words as federal Minister drew the country's attention to Labrador's unmatched beauty, and we in this province will remember his words as we reflect on his enduring legacy and mourn his tragic passing," said Davis.
