Kent to Step Down as MHA; Davis Commends Long-Serving Colleague

Steve Kent, the Progressive Conservative MHA for Mount Pearl North since October 2007, will be stepping down as MHA to accept a senior management position with the City of Mount Pearl. Mr. Kent intends to resign as MHA on October 10.

Kent said, "I am so proud of and remain deeply supportive of the vital work we have been doing in the Official ‎Opposition to hold the government to account, and I also remain deeply committed to serving the citizens of Mount Pearl, many of whom I've represented in the House of Assembly for a decade, and before that on City Council for a decade. While this was certainly not an easy decision, it was a rare opportunity that my family and I felt was the best choice for us to make at this time in our lives, and I am excited about continuing to serve the people in this new capacity."

Paul Davis, Leader of the Official Opposition, said, "Steve has been, not only a strong team player and a tireless champion for Mount Pearl, Elizabeth Park and Brookfield Plains over the past decade, but an exceptionally valuable colleague working for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians in our Opposition Caucus, in the House of Assembly, and in government.”

“I, along with our Caucus and PC Party, wish Steve and his family the very best as they move forward, and thank him for everything he has done to propel our Party forward toward the goal we all share of delivering stronger governance to Newfoundland and Labrador. Public service can be challenging, and although it's tough to see Steve move on, we wish him and his family much success and happiness,” said Davis.

Graydon Pelley, President of the PC Party of Newfoundland and Labrador, said, "Steve has been a hardworking, committed advocate for the PC Party, his District and for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. We wish Steve and his family well and much success with his future endeavours.”
