St. John’s, NL (December 5, 2018) – Ches Crosbie, Leader of the Official Opposition, is expressing his sympathies to the family and friends of Harold Matthew “Hal” Barrett, who passed away on December 4.

“On behalf of the Progressive Conservative Party and Caucus, I pay tribute to former Cabinet Minister Hal Barrett.  For a decade from 1979 to 1989 in the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Mr. Barrett represented the people of St. John’s West district and served the people of our province as the Minister of Development and Tourism in the Peckford administration, and as the Minister of Finance in the Rideout adminstration.  He also ran for the leadership of the PC Party in 1989,” said Crosbie.

“Hal Barrett was passionate about our province and dedicated himself to improving it through his work in the public, private and community sectors.  He worked over the years with the Royal Bank of Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Adjusters and Appraisers Ltd, Bar-Wood Insurance, Crosbie Steed Stenhouse Ltd., Newfoundland and Labrador Boat Builders, the Boy Scouts of Canada, the Newfoundland Cruising Club, the Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club, Sailing Venue Canada and the Newfoundland Summer Games.”

“To his wife Catherine, his children Gregg, Glenn, Mark and Jennifer and his many other relatives and friends, we express our deepest sympathies.”
