St. John’s, NL (January 15, 2019) – PC Opposition Leader Ches Crosbie today announced that he has written to the Commissioner for Legislative Standards to request an investigation of Premier Dwight Ball.

Crosbie’s complaint alleges breach of the House of Assembly Code of Conduct after the Premier admitted counselling at least one Member on how to respond while that Member was being investigated for ethics breaches.

During debate in the House of Assembly on December 3, 2018, the Member for Humber – Bay of Islands (Eddie Joyce) alleged the Premier had many discussions with him about the allegations against him, called to discuss the matter, advised the Member how to respond to the allegations against him, agreed to be a witness for the Member, and downplayed the allegations against the Member.

“The allegations of witness tampering against Premier Ball undermine the integrity of months of deliberation by the House of Assembly,” said Crosbie.  “Return to honest government requires they be investigated.”

The Liberal government closed the session of the House early, a day after the Premier was questioned by Crosbie and admitted to coaching Joyce.
