St. John’s, NL (February 14, 2019) – David Brazil, Health Critic for the Official Opposition, said more than excuses are needed for patients disadvantaged by the unavailability of emergency surgical services at Carbonear General Hospital, the diversion of obstetrics patients and the rescheduling of pain management clinics.

“A gap in anesthesiology services” was the explanation given by the Ball government for the unavailability of emergency surgical services for general, obstetric, and gynecological surgery at the hospital.

Brazil said, “The Liberals call it a gap, but I call it poor planning that appropriate resources are not in place so that services can be provided to the people of the region.”

“These are the kinds of things a government needs to plan for.  The failure to do so causes great concern for expecting Moms and Dads.  Newfoundlanders and Labradorians in rural communities and larger towns like Carbonear need to know the government is doing its job of planning so interruptions like this don’t impact people’s emergency and other health care needs.”

A Ches Crosbie PC Government will make health care decisions in the best interests of people.  This is in keeping with the PC Party policy of lower taxes, affordable energy and honest government.
