St. John’s, NL (February 14. 2019) – PC Opposition leader Ches Crosbie today promised that when he forms a government after the general election this year, he will repeal the entire 15% Liberal tax on auto insurance premiums, and he will also repeal any interference by the Ball Liberal government with the right to compensation for auto accident injuries

“People want lower taxes, not fake solutions like caps that shortchange the disabled, students and seniors who suffer injury,” Crosbie said.

“According to the Public Utilities Board, the saving to consumers from repealing the Ball Liberal tax is greater than the saving which might occur under caps to auto injury compensation proposed by insurance companies,” he said. “My premium relief plan is a tax relief plan.”

The PUB delivered a report to the Liberal government of Premier Ball on January 29, which made no recommendation as to caps.  The government has not yet made a decision as to what if any action it may take.
