St. John’s, NL (August 17, 2018) – Today MHA David Brazil, Opposition Health Critic, is raising concern about the failure of the Ball Liberals to take action and support attempted investment from local biotechnology firm Sequence Bio.

“Local biotechnology firm Sequence Bio has been waiting for a decision on their proposed pilot genomic project from ourHealth Ethics Research Board for over a year. These delays have finally caused them to move their research to New Brunswick, where their proposal was quickly vetted and approved,” said Brazil.

“As a result of Minister Haggie’s failure to address their experienced delays, we now see valuable research and well-paying jobs leave our province.”

In the most recent session of the House of Assembly, Brazil repeatedly called on Minister Haggie to intervene and address these delays. By failing to do so, Brazil believes Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are losing out – and deserve an explanation.

“By refusing to intervene and move forward this process, the Ball Liberal government has cost us hundreds of millions of local investment,” added Brazil

“Newfoundlanders and Labradorians deserve an explanation for why the Minister has refused to act, and why he has allowed this loss of good, local jobs and investment to occur.”
