Newfoundland and Labrador Progressive Conservative Party President Eugene Manning has expressed his sympathy, on behalf of the entire Party, to Party Leader Ches Crosbie and all members of the Crosbie family on the passing of the Hon. John C. Crosbie, a monumental figure in the history of the Newfoundland and Labrador PC Party.
Manning said, “Mr. Crosbie will be remembered for his enduring contribution to Newfoundland and Labrador through a lifetime of public service, including decades of service in key roles with the Progressive Conservative Party, both provincially and nationally.”
“Mr. Crosbie joined the PC Party in the late 1960s and helped lead our Party’s transition to government in 1972, where he served alongside Frank Moores until setting his sights on federal service in 1976. Firmly grounded in his base as the provincial and then federal member for St. John’s West, Mr. Crosbie made people his central focus and their best interests his overriding concern.”
“He was renowned for fighting, for standing his ground, for calling it like he saw it, and for delivering results for his district, province and country. There were none greater, none more determined, and none more effective in raising our province toward our greatest potential. He inspired his son Ches, his daughter Beth and a great many others to follow in his footsteps and take up where he left off, giving Newfoundland and Labrador opportunities and hope for a bright future.”
“Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Mr. Crosbie and resolve to make him proud by building with confidence on the solid foundation he did so much to make secure.”
