St. John’s, NL (March 11, 2020) – Opposition Finance critic Tony Wakeham said the Official Opposition has been successful in getting the Liberal Caucus in the House to agree that the government should bring down a Budget at the normal time this spring.

The Official Opposition has also been successful in forcing the Liberals to back down on their Bill to approve six months of funding without a Budget.

Wakeham said, “The economic crisis this province is facing right now demands leadership, and that means delivering a strategic Budget plan that addresses the current realities, meets people’s needs, stimulates growth and manages our affairs responsibly.”

“The Liberals were wrong to ask the House of Assembly to grant them six months of funding without any information or accountability. That’s not the way to govern any province, let alone a province facing the challenges that have people across Newfoundland and Labrador concerned.”

“We did our job in reining the Liberals in. Now, let them do their job of producing the Budget our province needs. If they are unable to do that, then let them ask for our help so we can get this province back on track to growth,” he said.
